MORPHO HELENOR PROMETA
The "Morpho helenor promises" was discovered and described in 2011 by researchers Yubinca Gareca and Patrick Blandin in the subandino Tarijeño. It has details in greenish and purple color in an almost black background and its size oscillates between the 10 to 13 cm. The scientists decided to name "PROMETA" not only in thanks to PROMETA for having supported their scientific work, but as a recognition for their contribution to the conservation of biological diversity in Bolivia.
Ximena Velez-Liendo won the Whitley 2017 Award for her work on the conservation of the Andean Bear (Jucumari), a project supported by the Chester Zoo, WildCRU (U. Oxford) and PROMETA. The project managed to confirm the presence of the Andean bear in the Department of Tarija for the first time in decades.
