En los últimos años hemos trabajado intensamente en el desarrollo de condiciones habilitantes para la gestión de áreas protegidas locales y nacionales. Esto incluye la implementación de mecanismos de gobernanza como las Plataformas de Apoyo y los Programas Institucionales Municipales, que contribuyen a la sostenibilidad de estas áreas. Además, el desarrollo del marco legal y normativo, planificación, gestión y participación comunitaria.

Recientemente, hemos innovado en mecanismos financieros para el apoyo de áreas protegidas. Entre estas innovaciones está la implementación de instrumentos como el Fondo Municipal de Agua de Tarija, el primer apoyo continuo de una entidad subnacional a un área protegida nacional, y el programa «Apoya Sama», pionero en Bolivia donde empresas privadas contribuyen mensualmente a la gestión de la Reserva de Sama.

PROMETA, en colaboración con organizaciones aliadas, está implementando en Bolivia el modelo de Paisajes Productivos Protegidos (PPP), el cual promueve una integración equilibrada entre las actividades productivas del sector privado y la conservación de la biodiversidad.

Las organizaciones de desarrollo locales juegan un rol clave en el éxito de los procesos de desarrollo. Sin embargo, en los últimos años se han debilitado enormemente. Por eso es que PROMETA ha orientado esfuerzos en fortalecer a estas organizaciones brindando servicios de asesoramiento y capacitación.

En PROMETA apoyamos el desarrollo del turismo responsable como estrategia que contribuye a la conservación del medio ambiente. Por esto estamos impulsando rutadelvinobolivia.com, la primera plataforma digital de enoturismo de Bolivia, que ordena, sistematiza y comercializa la oferta turística de la Ruta del Vino de los valles de Tarija y Cinti.

Hemos llevado adelante la implementación de las tres áreas protegidas de carácter nacional que existen en el departamento de Tarija: la Reserva Biológica de la Cordillera de Sama, el Parque Nacional Aguaragüe y la Reserva de Flora y Fauna de Tariquía. Además, ha participado en la elaboración del marco normativo para la creación del Parque Nacional Serranía del Iñao en el departamento de Chuquisaca.

Hemos introducido a Bolivia el concepto de Áreas Protegidas Municipales que posteriormente fue incluido en la nueva Constitución Política del Estado. Con esto hemos promovido la creación de numerosas áreas protegidas municipales en todo el país.

Tras años de esfuerzo, hemos reintroducido llamas en las comunidades del altiplano tarijeño, reemplazando a burros y parcialmente a ovejas, transformando así la economía local. Este cambio ha mejorado los ingresos de las comunidades, empoderado a mujeres y mejorado la escolaridad infantil -las llamas requieren menos atención que ovejas-. Además, esto ha contribuido a preservar la pastura nativa -ya que las llamas no la dañan a diferencia de ovejas y burros-.
