Projects focused on environmental conservation

People conserving biodiversity

The program is focused on promoting the conservation of biodiversity and its ecosystem functions in Bolivia's diverse ecoregions by improving the management of existing tools and developing new ones to complement them, including protected areas at the national, subnational and civil society levels, as well as other private conservation programs for protected landscapes, conservation easements and ecological corridors, among others.

Strategic lines
  • Creation of new conservation units in order to fill existing gaps in representativeness and contribute to the connectivity of the protected areas system.
  • Support for the management of national and sub-national protected areas
  • Continue with the effective management of the Private Natural Heritage Reserves, Alarachi and El Corbalán, owned by PROMETA, and promote new civil society protected areas.
  • Promote and support the implementation of other biodiversity conservation and environmental management mechanisms and strategies.
  • Contribute to the conservation of endangered species and their habitats in alliance with local communities.
  • Develop enabling conditions for the sustainability of national and subnational protected areas: effective governance mechanisms and mechanisms for financial sustainability.
  • Implement environmental education and advocacy actions.

People producing in harmony with nature

This program focuses on promoting the adoption of sustainable production practices that are resilient to climate change by working with rural producers. It seeks to reduce impacts on ecosystems, water, food security and human health in vulnerable populations, especially those linked to protected areas and other sites of ecological and water importance. The program connects the well-being of the population with the sustainable management of renewable natural resources in critical areas for biodiversity conservation.

Strategic lines
  • Domestic camelid livestock and sustainable use of wild camelid fiber as a strategy for conservation of wetlands and natural grazing lands and poverty reduction
  • Promoting climate-resilient agricultural production for both men and women, improving food security, access to water and promoting the rescue and conservation of native crop genetic resources.
  • Supporting the development of community-based ecotourism, ensuring direct benefits for local populations.
  • Promotion of beekeeping production, consumption and marketing, together with other alternative productive initiatives, benefiting young women and men.
  • Generation of scientific knowledge applied to new solutions that increase climate resilience in food production, water and energy use, in collaboration with expert stakeholders, to promote public policies.
  • Identification and monitoring of zoonotic transmitted diseases in livestock activities.

People articulating the territory

The objective of this program is to develop territorial management models that prioritize the sustainable use of natural resources and the well-being of communities. To achieve this, it promotes the formation of alliances and collaborative networks with diverse actors in the areas of intervention, creating spaces for dialogue and consensus among local communities, civil society and public institutions.

Strategic lines
  • Public policy advocacy
  • Strengthening municipalities in natural resource management, planning and budget management.
  • Promotion of the formation of alliances, networks and multi-stakeholder platforms to improve territorial management and its investments.
  • Capacity building for local community, public sector and civil society stakeholders
